blog 11- The rescue

If there's smoke there must be people, I thought. As I stepped on the sand I saw a boy with long blond dirty hair. He had what looked like permanent dirt stuck to his face, arms and legs. I thought something might have happened to this kid because he was holding the side of his stomach and had blood on the bottom half of his body. I looked closer and saw behind this boy there were others. The other boys had paint on there face and spears in there hands, which looked like they were playing some kind of hunting game. Right then I started to wonder if there was any adults on this island?
"hullo" I said to the boy with blond hair.
"Hullo" he said quietly.
Are there any adults on this island? I questioned.
The blond haired boy had shook his head No. They must have liked that.
"Fun and games," I said.
There was so much smoke and I could see the fire spreading. There game must have gotten a little bit out of control.
"We saw your smoke, what have you been doing? It looks like a war has just ended.
The blond haired boy nodded. His face looked like something was wrong.
"Was anyone killed? I hope not," I said as the blond boy started to give me a sad look.
"Only two and there gone now"
I was shocked when I heard this.
"Two were Killed?!"
The boy nodded.
Some more kids were coming over to me but these kids looked younger. One kid came up to me and started to muter something.
I'm, I'm-"
I started to think, maybe these kids have been here for longer then I thought because this little kid has even forgot his name.
I wonder how many of these kids are there?
"We'll take you off. How many of you boys are there?"
No one said anything accept for the boy with blond hair, shook his head.
"Who's the boss of you boys?"
The blond hair boy said loudly, "I am"
How does he not no how many boys are on this island with them. This really made me think. What actually happened here?
"You don't know how many of you there are?"
"No sir" he answered politely
I thought British boys acted differently. More behaved.
"Your all British right? I would have thought you boys would have put on a better show then this."
The blond haired boy said sadly, "It used to be like that at first, but then-"
He stopped.
"We were together then-"
" I know just like the Coral Island" I said.
The blond haired boy gave me a dumb look.
I started to think again about what I had before, What happened on this island? Did kids kill other kids? I wondered. I thought that maybe they had been on this island so long that maybe they had all changed and started to imagine things that weren't real. And they started to separate because they had different ideas of stuff they liked and wanted and also if this thing they imagined was real.
I decide to turn away from the boys because they started to get sad so I wanted to give them time to pull themselves together. I looked at my cruiser and thought, I fight at wars and kill people. Maybe I'm more like these boys then I thought.

blog 5 - New Year's Fun

People talking, A kitchen full with food and champagne overflowing, little kids running around and music blaring. It is just a typical New Years Eve party at the Fox’s. The food table is colorful with the delightful aroma of all kinds of smells, Italian with fragrant basil and garlic, Mexican with cilantro, beans and rice, Chinese with Mongolian beef and broccoli.

In the kitchen is where you will find the adults, some adults with serious faces talking about global warming and some laughing about a funny stories that happened to them. Some of the little kids about 5 years old will be in the living room running around, playing tag. The 8 year old kids will usually be in the t.v room, playing the wii. People my age will be in my friend Anna’s room, listening to music, laughing about everything.

All the adults yell, “IT IS ALMOST TIME”. My friends and I go to see what desserts we find. There is apple pie, blue berry pie, cherry pie, brownies from the store, brownies someone’s made and all different kinds of chocolate desserts.

All of the Kids push there way up the stairs, some of the little ones fall down, and climb back up. We all push until we get to the roof. As all different colors form the sky, like blue which mixed with red and made purple, orange, yellow, all the colors of the rainbow flashed. Everybody looks at there watches and cell phones. Everyone at the same time yells “HAPPY NEW YEAR!”My friends and I scream as loud and long as we can. We can hear the adults around us tell us to stop and be more quiet but we ignore them and keep screaming. I wasn’t very hyper at all before that but the second everybody started yelling everybody's excitement ran through my body. I couldn’t help it.

Blog 10- Fight at Castle Rock

When we woke up the next morning Piggy was a mess. Stumbling all over the place and complaining about not being able to see. Once we figured out that we needed the glasses we had to make a plan to get them back; because without the glasses we couldn't make a signal fire and Jack and his hunters could make one. Ralph said that we would go to castle rock to get them back. Ralph also said that we had to dress decently. We want Jack to know that we want to get whats ours in a peaceful way.  We walked to Castle rock silently because secretly we were all scared. As we got closer we heard Roger say "Who goes there?". Ralph had heard it and yelled back

what do you mean, you can see it's us. Boys start to come out of everywhere with spears. A big rock almost hit us. Roger had his hand on a lever and Ralph said "Im calling an assembly about piggy's glasses" . Just after that had happened someone came out of the forest with black and green paint on his face then we realized that it was Jack. "Go back to where you came from, this is my part of the island. This is my group now. " said Jack

Then Ralph replied "We would have let you share our fire but instead you stole piggy's glasses, just like a thief."

"Wait, what did you call me!" said Jack very angrily

"I called you a thief!" said Ralph

Then Jack and Ralph fought with spears but when Piggy cried something to Ralph he remember that he was there for Piggy's glasses and not to start a fight.

"Just gimme' the specs!" said Ralph.

Then another boy with a painted face took us by the arms. He brought us behind a wall of other painted faces. Then, just like that another sudden thing happened. Roger pulled the lever he had been playing with and a rock launched at Piggy. Piggy fell to the ground, his blood spilling all over the place. Then the body fell into the ocean. They really have turned into savages. We thought. We can't believe they would kill Piggy we can't believe that they have actually let the dark side of themselves take over. Jack came up to us and said, "Your part of our group now."

"But we want-"

"-to go back with Ralph"

Jack gave us a look. It was over. We were now part of Jack and his tribe.

blog 9- Murder

As I sat under the palm tree, looking at the phosphorescent water, I though about poor old Simon. Even though I told Ralph it was an accident, deep inside I knew that it was a murder. We were all dancing in a circle to keep the storm away, and then suddenly we heard something fall out of the bushes. We didn't even stop to see if we were right, we just automatically thought it was the beast. We all started to claw and scratch him with our nails, bite him with our sharp teeth and he felt stifled with no way out. Everyone was smothered in blood. I start to shudder every time I think about it.

"It was a murder"Ralph said quietly.

"No it wasn't a murder, it was an accident" I said.

Even though I said that, I didn't really believe what I said. I know it was dark and there was a storm but that probably wouldn't stop Jack.

As I heard a voice say "Piggy, Piggy" I got up. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was the beast. " Piggy, come here Piggy". I couldn't breathe. My asthma started to get worse. I would breathe as hard as I could in but it did work. My lungs felt like they were clogged. The beast had come for me.  Three bodies came in to the shelter and even though I knew it wasn't the beast anymore my asthma wouldn't stop. I gesticulated by putting my hand over my throat. I was trying to tell Ralph that I was having my asthma attack and I couldn't breathe but since it was dark, I was no use.

I couldn't see but I could hear that people were fighting. Then it sounded like it had stopped.
I started to get up to go to see what had happened. I reached for my glasses but is all I felt was sand. "Who took my glasses?"

Blog 8-Kill the beast, cut he's throat, spill his blood

The thought "Fear back at the beach" what the pig head had mentioned to me, ran through my head, a pig head talking to me? At first I thought I was imagining it. I fainted and after that I couldn't remember most of it.
I started to walk up the mountain, it started to trickle as I moved steadfastlyI had seen something. Once I had gotten up to the top, I saw this dead man. I could start to hear a faint sound or chant. As I made my way down the mountain, I pushed as fast as I could through the bushes and vines starting to get used to the scars that it left me.  A storm had begone, I thought about how they could have thought the parachuter was the beast. The beast had taken over the boys, just like the pig head. I promised I would never give in to Jack's group even if it meant I had to leave the group. At least I would be with nature. The chant got louder and louder as I walked down the mountain but I still couldn't put the sounds together. I had to save the rest of the boys from the fear and tell them there was no beast all long. Jack had always said to Ralph that it was real when he would say it wasn't. He made everyone feel safe and that they were protected and if anything happened, Jack was there to save them.
At the blink of an eye, the sounds had finally made words that rang in my ears. Kill the beast, Cut he's throat. Spill his blood. This made me fall right out of the forest and into the group of boys
"It's a dead man, not the beast", my voice said tremulously. Before all of their faces blurred, They looked at me like I was some kind of beast. I felt a very sharp pain like someone had  pinched me as hard as they could. I fell to the floor with pain. It started to spread all over my body in seconds. I was gone. I left to nature.
At that moment from my eyes, I saw Jack become leader and knew there would be total
corruption. And to me the island had lost civilization.

Blog Quest 4

Interview with Ralph

Me: When you crashed on the island, were you scared, did you think you were going to get off the island right away or did you think you might not get off the island?

Ralph:
When I first got on the island, I didn't know where I was or how big the island was, all I could think about was when my dad would come rescue us. At first I thought that my dad would know where we were and be able to rescue us right away. As the days went by, I started to wondering how we were going to survive until he comes. We needed shelter from the rain, food to eat and a leader to lead us and make us feel safe until we got home.

Me: Why do you think they chose you to be leader?

Ralph: Maybe they thought it was because of the shell or maybe because I was the one who blew the conch and got everyone together and I was the one who started to talk about what we needed to do to survive until we would be rescued off the island.

Me: Why do you think Jack wouldn't be a good leader?

Ralph: Is all Jack cared about was hunting and killing pigs. He never cared about anyones feelings or thoughts, especially the little ones fears. If Jack was leader we would have food but we would never be rescued because he was once supposed to keep the signal fire smoking but instead he discide to do what he wanted to do, and when the signal fire was out, a ship passed by and if it was going we probably would have been rescued.

Me: Why were you so mad when Jack went to go hunting instead of keeping the signal fire going?

Ralph: I was so mad at Jack that day, I told him to make sure the fire was going at all times and he instead went hunting because he felt like it eventhough being rescued is the most important thing. He never thought about anyone else only him self and what he wanted to do. Hunting is important and even I felt the thrill of what it's like to hunt a pig but we need to also think of what is REALLY important, being rescued.

Blog Quest-3

To the tune of Shout- Tears for Fears
Written and sung by Gala and Sianni

Hunt:

CHORUS
Hunt, hunt, let it all out
these are the things Jack cares about
come on, Im hunting a pig, come on

CHORUS

In desperate times
you shouldn't go hunt a pig
On this island
Jack really ought to know
This signal fire
That took so long
You let it die
You shouldn't have go hunt a pig

CHORUS

We made a fire
And it return you let it die
There was a ship
I hope we live to be rescued
I hope we live to be rescued

Blog Quest-2

The Conch:
The Conch represents order and democracy . Because Ralph is leader, he is the one who gets to blow the Conch.  If the boys forgo the Conch that means there is no order and democracy.
Piggy's Glasses:
Piggy's glasses represent intellectualism and using reason. The glasses are used in the book to light the signal fire. If these are broken, then the boys do not have a way to get rescued anymore. The glasses are very important in the book, they keep the fire going and are their best hope for being rescued.
The signal Fire:
The signal fire is also important, especially to Ralph . This is used because if a ship or plane passes by it will see the fire. Ralph gets very mad if it's not being lit. Once, in the book Jack said he would keep the fire going and he instead went hunting. Ralph saw a ship pass by and ran up the mountain  to see the fire. He noticed that it wasnt lit and Jack was there, holding a pig.
The Beast:
The Beast in the story is called "beastie". The beast represents a humans fear . Some of the kids think they saw it, but it could just be their imagination and fear. In one of the chapters when Jack is hunting, he says he felt like there was something watching him. Maybe the beast or maybe the rest of the hunters or maybe his instincts to kill. Who knows?

blog quest- 1

Ralph:
Ralph is a 12 year old boy. He has blond hair. He was chosen as the leader of all the boys on the island. His main concern is providing shelter for everyone and being rescued off the island. When Jack said he would keep the fire going but instead he went hunting. Ralph was very angry with him because since he was hunting there was know one to keep the signal fire going. So it was not burning when Ralph saw a ship on the horizon.

Jack:

Jack has orangish hair and is skinny. Jack has a need for power. He is leader of the hunters. Jack thinks that hunting is the MOST important thing and that the leaders should have the final say. He does not listen or value other boys opinions like Piggy, Simon and the little ones.

Piggy:

Piggy is overweight and has short thin, black hair. He wears glasses to see. He is smart and agrees with Ralph that it is important to be rescued. It was Piggy's glasses that helped start the signal fire. He believes in rules and reason just as Ralph does. He is the only one in the group who will actually bend down to listen to what the little ones have to say and comfort them that everything is going to be okay.

Simon:

Simon is skinny with long, black hair. He is sensitive and shy. He feels like he is at home when he is deep in the forest. When he is in the forest he likes to be alone. He respects Ralph's opinions and doesn't really like Jack.

"Is that what I think it is, or is it a mirage? I think it's real, it's a boat!" I said in a shrill tone. As I rush down the mountain to the signal fire, through the opalescent vines. I started to hear a malevolent chant. It was coming from Jack and his choir.
"Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood."
It rang in my ears, as I climbed down the mountain. I noticed that there was no smoke, which means, no fire!
"JACK!" I said in anger.
"What!?" said Jack, "I was hunting. I got a pig!".
"Hunting!" I shouted.  "Thanks to you, a ship just passed by and you didn't keep the signal fire going. That was your duty to keep it burning. You are so preposterous. Don't you want to be rescued?".
Piggy started to whimper as he heard this.
"But I got us food, something to live on", Jack said.
That has nothing to do with what I assigned him to do, keep the fire going, what he's talking about is so irrelevant.  I feel like punching Jack so badly right now. As I was thinking of how good it would feel to punch jack, Jack had already punched Piggy. I saw his glasses gyrating through the air. Jack is being so incredulously unreasonable. I don't know what the implication will be.......We my just all die.

Blog 3-First Day Hunting

As I pushed through the tendrils, I saw a group of pigs. Come on stupid pig. I thought to myself. I was festooned in bushes and leaves and vines. Going at this rate, I will never catch a pig. I want to kill this pig so bad. I looked at the barb on the end on my weapon, I was using to hunt. This better be sharp enough, I thought to myself. I decided to go back to the lagoon to see what the others were up to. As Ralph started yelling at me, something about not doing anything for the group. What I do for the group is something that I have fun with, he was saying. I just couldn't keep my mind off that pig. What did I do wrong? I'm helping the group by getting food, right? And once I get a pig, I will be a hero! I was so bewildered about why he was angry with me. I don't flaunt what a good hunter I am. Even though I know I have killer instincts. Where as Ralph is inscrutable. No one knows what he's really thinking when he is always giving those furtive looks. The moment Ralph had said to me, Where's the meat?, I knew that I was never going to be the leader. It's just not fair! If Ralph just had a glimmer of who I really am. I am a born leader and hunter and hunting is hard work too! I think Ralph is obsessed with trying to get off this island and having everyone work so hard building shelters and making  fire. We're never going to get off this island, at least not for a while. It's all feels so oppressive. I'm sick of Ralph telling us what to do all the time!
